Only lists an exhibit's parent page on profiles Exhibits list

Currently, subpages of exhibits show as separate exhibit instances when you filter to a person.

This is misleading, since it is 8 pages of the same exhibit. The teaser titles adds to the confusion, since the content parent title is often not included on subpages.

Is it possible to do the following?:

1. Only show the parent page listing of the exhibit in profile exhibits lists
2. Have the child pages inherit the authorship of the parent page so it doesn't need to be changed for every subpage if the curators list is altered.

I will leave these as-is on my profile page for now so you can see the examples if it helps, but then I would like to go in and fix the authorship so they don't show for me, since they are not really mine, so let me know when I can do that.

It is possible to do those things, but I think they create their own problems. The target page is the main search with two facets applied - Exhibits and Author. If we were to only show top-level exhibits in the search it would either:

1. Make child page exhibits unsearchable (if we simply suppress child exhibit pages)
2. Make it so that the searched content is not actually present on parent exhibit page (if we append child page content to the parent page search record)

Thanks for looking into this. I wouldn't want to change how search works globally. Child pages should remain searchable as they are now.

My specific concern is in the profile context only, where the search is pre-filtered by author and content type. In that context, surfacing child pages separately is misleading because the user isn't doing a keyword search, they're browsing someone's contributions.

Some questions that might open up different approaches:

• Does our search index store parent/child relationships for exhibit pages? If so, could results be filtered or grouped differently when the search is triggered from a profile link (e.g. via a URL parameter)?
• If filtering at the query level is complex, would it be feasible to handle the display differently on the results page when a profile context parameter is present? For example, grouping child pages under their parent rather than suppressing them entirely?

The desired outcome is that the profile view reflects actual exhibits rather than page count, without affecting keyword search behavior elsewhere.

If we don't currently index the parent/child relationship for exhibit pages, it wouldn't be difficult to. Yes, we could respond to a url parameter that then filters out exhibit subpages, but would need some sort of UX indication that's what it's doing.

This is likely the more complicated option. I would advise going down this road only if you really want the subpages listed under the parent.

I think the URL parameter approach would meet our needs. This is how I'd like it to work, if feasible:

When arriving from a staff profile, pass a context parameter in the search URL that filters exhibit results to parent pages only. Child pages remain fully indexed and searchable as normal; the filter only applies in the profile context.

When a keyword is entered, the context filter drops and full results are returned, including exhibit sub-pages. The author filter persists until manually cleared.

To set expectations for the count change, results as seen when entering from a profile will include a short inline note: X results — Search can show matching pages within exhibits.

Additionally, since we can identify child pages, it would be broadly helpful to indicate in site search results that an exhibit subpage is part of a larger exhibit, since the child page titles tend to lack that context. Even better if the indicator provides linkage to the parent page.

Preferred placement would be inline with the content type category, for example: Exhibit | Part of Picnic Day: By the Decade, where the title is linked and indicated by an underline.
